Hi! My name is Flora Chang. I am a first year biopsychology
major from the safest city in the nation, Irvine, California. I was born in
Guam, grew up in Taiwan, moved to Portland, Oregon for a year in 2003, moved
back to Taiwan, and then moved to Irvine in the fourth grade. In Taiwan, I
attended an international European school. Since I attended the school since
the age of 4, I had a British accent. Fortunately, or unfortunately, it wore
off when I moved to the states. I speak English and Mandarin fluently and can
understand (but can’t really speak) Taiwanese. I love eating out at new
restaurants, as I am very much incapable of cooking. I’d like to call myself a
foodie who occasionally writes Yelp reviews, in hopes of becoming “Yelp Elite”
when I am twenty-one. My favorite things to eat are steak (medium rare), rice,
and udon. I’m not quite sure how I am going to survive here with the lack of
authentic Asian food.
This summer before coming to UCSB, I went to Taiwan and
Japan. I had a trip planned for Korea with my friends, but had to cancel the
vacation because of the MERS outbreak. I enjoy travelling, and I really want to
visit Maldives sometime soon. I was in Taiwan with my family for about a month,
where I got to devour delicious food! The humidity there is horrible, though. I
have two brothers—an older brother in New York and a younger brother in Irvine.
I love binge watching Netflix, as does everyone else. My
favorite TV shows are White Collar, Suits, Gossip Girl, Sherlock, and
Graceland. I am not a fan of horror movies or TV shows. My favorite music
genres are R&B, EDM, and hip-hop. I am terrified of rodents, including
hamsters, but I am not afraid of spiders.
